Snapper Gets Moving

Snapper Gets Moving promotes ‘eat well’ and ‘move more’ messages in a lively show just right for Children’s Centres. Features Snapper and his friends having fun getting up and about.

Jo, Snapper and friends have been regular visitors to children’s centres and primary schools across the North since 2003.
Each show lasts 25–30 minutes and can include seasonal topics, for example sun safety, bonfire night.
Children can meet the puppets up close after a show, talk about the message and make a puppet to take home.
All shows are available all year round and are suitable for children in Children’s Centres through to Key Stage 1.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show again! And as I expected it was a bit hit with all ages. A great fun way to address important issues.

Meet Tim

Puppeteer Tim holding saucepan to show thew dangers of cooking fires

i, my name is Tim Preston and I have worked in arts and health promotion in Manchester and the North West for twenty years. From 1991 to 2002 I was employed by Working for Health in Wythenshawe, organising community health projects and helped found South Manchester’s healthy living network.

As a father of three I’m keenly aware of the pressures on parents of young children. We’ve had a couple of near misses with ours over the years. The scariest was a chip pan fire when Daniel (8) and Ellie (4) were trapped upstairs. The Fire Brigade’s ‘Welephant’ had recently visited school and Daniel knew to stop the smoke coming under the bedroom door with blankets, which protected them until they were rescued. The episode convinced me that safety and health promotion with young children can be effective.

I have a current CRB disclosure and public liability insurance and can provide references on request.

What they say

Children enjoyed show and the puppet making afterwards. Particularly good for this time of year as children are more likely to be left to amuse themselves during the summer holiday. A really enjoyable morning. Thank you!
Still talking about Look Out Jo! in potentially unsafe situations. Great fun, very relevant.
Children referred to their own experiences back in the classroom, eg. Learning to use a blunt knife safely at home to help Mummy make sandwiches. Thank you for an enjoyable and informative session which has given us plenty of follow-up opportunities.
Very enjoyable show with a good clear message linked to being healthy. Straight after the show a boy went over to the puppet box and pulled out a crocodile puppet. The boy who has English as a second language said “Snapper” and fed him a toy. All of the children loved the puppet ‘Snapper’ and the interaction between Snapper, Frog and Chicken.
The show was entertaining and informative. Thank you! Many children brought the puppets back to school and have used them during ‘free play’ activities. Absolutely wonderful – just right for this age group and really engaged their enthusiasm. Thank you.
A super show enjoyed by all. The children loved investigating the puppets after the show and how they worked. The materials left for puppet making were brilliant. Thanks very much.
